Physics department of Govt. Tilak PG College Katni was established in 1958 and PG course was started in 1985. It is one of the oldest departments of this college. Department offers UG and PG Courses. The intake for UG and PG course is 300 and 30 respectively. Presently there are 2 Professors, 2 Assistant Professor and 1 Guest faculty in the department. In Present, Dr SK Khare (Professor), Dr MP Yadav (Professor), Dr Rukmani Pratap Singh (Assistant Professor), Dr Santosh Kumar Singh (Assistant Professor) and Mr Vinod Lodhi (Guest Faculty) are working in Physics department. Two post of Lab technician and one post of Lab attendant is also sanctioned.  M.Sc (Physics) course is running since 1984. Department is enriched with well qualified teachers and sophisticated equipment, which reflects in the result of the students. Three students of PG got Gold Medal of RDVV Jabalpur whereas one student got one Gold Medal in UG level. Highest medals (4 medals) are received by our department’s student Meenakshi moorpari. Faculty of the department are actively engaged with new frontier of the research. HOD of the department, Dr M.P Yadav, has successfully completed one UGC sponsored minor project entitled “Study of Geomagnetic Storms”. Principal of the college, Dr SK Khare, is also form physics department and he has published 04 research papers in national and international journals. 20 research papers are published by Dr M.P Yadav in the field of Space Physics. Other faculty members, Dr Rukmani Pratap Singh and Dr Santosh Kumar Singh has published 07 and 06 research papers in national and international journals respectively.
