Chemistry Department is currently the biggest department in the Science faculty of college according to the number of students. It was established from 1971 with UG and from 1984 with PG courses. Currently three full time Assistant Professors and one guest faculty are working under the guidance of Mr. Punarbasu Bhattacharjya (HoD). The students are pursuing their degree with lab skills and innovations. Practical works and research oriented project works always remains on the top priority as it encourages the students for job oriented compatibility. All the faculties are the alumni of various prestigious institutes of nations like NITs and Central Universities.  All are engaged in research work with students in the frontier area of chemistry along with academic work. The various area of research interest are Organic synthesis, Coordination chemistry, Bio inorganic chemistry, water oxidation via electro- catalysis etc. At present the department is equipped with many precious chemical instruments like UV-Vis spectrophotometer, pH meter, conductometer, centrifuge, polarimeter, double distillation set-up and many more. There are two separate laboratory for UG and PG students, both labs are equipped with Bunsen burner, magnetic stirrer and heat mantle facility for various practical works.

Department always emphasises on the hygiene and safety for the students and staff, all the laboratories have exhaust fans to alleviate the toxic and harmful gases/fumes as well as  fire extinguishing set up ( fire extinguisher and sand bucket) is there to control the emergency situation.
